Lawton Public Schools (LPS) will be hosting several community Continuous Strategic Improvement (CSI) forums on Thursday, Nov. 4. The purpose of these forums is to allow community member voices to be heard on topics regarding the school district. There will be a meeting in each LPS high school at 6 p.m., along with a 10 a.m. meeting within the Fort Sill Conference Center (attendance requires a Military ID or Pass). Additionally, there will be a meeting in the Douglass Learning Center at 9:15 a.m., which will also be hosted virtually, for LPS staff members to gather and discuss their visions and insights.
The forums will be facilitated by Oklahoma State School Boards Association (OSSBA) and the K20 Center representatives. The process officially began in September with one of the CSI elements completed by stakeholders – the 2021 LPS Community Survey. This survey, which closed on October 15, was one method of collecting preliminary input from constituents with vested interest in the success of the district.
Parents, staff, students and residents of Lawton Fort Sill have a right to be involved in the process of public education. This is all being done in an effort to increase that involvement and make changes to the district that will lead to student and staff successes moving forward. After OSSBA and the K20 Center finish compiling the data received, a planning team consisting of parents, students, community members, teachers and staff will create goals for the district and develop a five-year strategic plan – a plan which is expected to be presented to the LPS Board for approval in mid-2022.
